No Miles, Rest Day

What a ride since San Francisco! I had never rode so many days back to back in my life. And with the help of new friends, I made it. This certainly has been life changing. The relationships and laughs make every day brighter than the previous. The saying around the table is ‘Yesterday was the hardest day; tomorrow will be the easiest, see you down the road today.’ Not one complaint has been heard yet, although there has been opportunity. That just isn’t in these folks’ fiber.

Our Mechanic says 'A clean bike is a happy bike'
Every day is a new type of challenge. Yesterday was the long distance. A previous day was the downhill slalom as we scooted down the interstate at speeds of 40 mph avoiding road litter. Another day was the long grinds of 6-7%, another day the steep climbs of 14-17%. Another day is trying to figure which way to go from the route directions they give us. Another day are medical issues and ample use of products designed to eliminate chaffing. Today is cleaning – laundry, bikes, ourselves. Many finished those chores early and went to see the sights such as the Olympic Village area above Salt Lake City.

Let me tell you something strange. There might be a physics explanation, but I don't need it. Just as we were arriving into Winnemucca we had a stretch of road construction. They were digging up the old pavement and replacing it with fresh, hot asphalt. As I was riding for about two miles on the new pavement the sun was directly behind me, and as I looked up from my handlebars a completely circular rainbow - with all seven colors easy to discern circling the shadow of my head and helmet. That was really special; I had never seen that before. I have felt blessed everyday of this trip, but that was unique, and at the moment I needed it. I really felt at peace.

Bottom Line: Time to rest. Time to recharge. Time to catch up on stuff. This has been a good day.
